Privacy policy
Virtual Pilot Coms ("we", "the app") is an aviation training app for general aviation pilots. This policy describes what we collect, how we use it, and what we never do. Plain language; no surprises.
What we collect
- Account profile — your pilot name, certificate level, and (optionally) your flight instructor's email so the app can email debriefs to them when you tap Share.
- Session data — transcripts, scores, FAA citations, and timestamps for every practice session, stored locally on your device.
- Voice (transient) — your microphone input is streamed to the voice service to be transcribed and to drive the ATC voice response. It is processed in real time and not retained after the session ends.
- Voice in GOT CRAFT? (on-device only) — the V3 CRAFT readback drill uses on-device speech recognition. Audio for grading never leaves your iPhone or iPad and is not uploaded to any cloud service.
- Diagnostics — anonymous crash logs and aggregate usage counts, with no personal identifiers attached.
What we never do
- Sell or share your data with advertisers.
- Store recordings of your voice after a session.
- Send anything to your instructor unless you tap the Share button on the debrief screen.
- Track your location.
Third parties
We use OpenAI (for transmission grading) and ElevenLabs (for voice-driven ATC dialogue and synthesized ATIS). Both process audio and text on a per-request basis under their respective enterprise terms; neither retains data for training.
We use the FAA Aviation Weather Center (METAR), the FAA NASR subscription database (airports), and the public D-ATIS endpoint for weather and airport data. None of these calls include any personal information.
Your data, on your device
All session transcripts, scores, and your profile (including instructor email) are stored locally in the app's sandbox. You can delete them at any time via Settings → Reset, or by uninstalling the app.
Children
Virtual Pilot Coms is intended for student and certificated pilots and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If we update this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date. Material changes will also be announced in-app before they take effect.
